Mulatu Astatke - Mulatu Steps Ahead (2010)

This must be at least the third time that I use Jim Jarmush as an excuse to introduce a musician, but man, apart from that its proposal to address me love is a great music lover who has shed light on artists that otherwise would be much more unknown than they are. That was how the 2005 with Yegelle Tezella on the soundtrack to Broken Flowers discovered Mulatu Astatke, the father of Ethio-Jazz, a trend that as the name suggests is the result of the union of jazz with Ethiopian music. This is his latest album promotional version, the nice thing is that, to avoid hacking the teacher from time to time mark songs saying things like "I'm Mulatu Astatke and this is my last record," which provides a very special touch to the sophisticated, yet tasty Steps Ahead. Try

(and if you like you know I do)
